Cape Lookout State Park is located less than 15 miles south west of Tillamook, OR. Take 3rd street out of Tillamook, towards the coast. 3rdSt will quickly transform into Hwy 131. When Hwy 131 forks, stay left and travel down Whisky Creek Rd. You will remain on this road until reaching the trailhead. The road’s name will change several times before ending as: Cape Lookout Rd. Again, there will be plenty of big, brown, park signs, pointing in the right direction.
Anderson's Lookout |
Make sure to stop at Anderson’s Lookout! It's right off Cape Lookout Rd, about a mile before the trailhead parking lot. This spot provides a cheap n’ easy view of Netarts Bay and Spit.. On a clear day you can see several ocean arches in the distance.
South View - Fog |
South View - No Fog |
The first mile of
the hike follows the southern coast line.. Apparently the
south facing trail is popular for whale watching, so be vigilant.. Check the forecast and hope for limited fog. As pictured above, fog cover has the potential to eliminate any coastal view.
North View |
After a mile on the south side of the cape, the trail cuts across and begins to run along the north side. You’ll witness your first view of the
northern coastline and Netarts Spit.
Cape Lookout End Point (courtesy of rxorig)
The trail continues for about a mile before
reaching the tip. Endless views of the
Pacific Ocean await. Relax on the bench and enjoy! Once you’ve
had enough, return the way you came.
