Eagle Creek Trail is one of the most popular destinations in the Gorge for hiking enthusiasts. The Trailhead is located directly off I-84, Exit #41. The Exit is only available traveling eastbound, so travelers from Hood River will need to double back from Exit #40. Make sure and arrive early in the day! Parking lot space fills-up quick in the summer.

Once on the trail, there are enough highlights along the way to side track even the most focused hikers. Metlako Falls can be sited 1.4 miles along the path.

Lower Punchbowl Falls |
Optional: If you
are hiking on a warm summer day, I suggest a detour to lower punchbowl falls. At
the 1.7 mile mark, descend a quarter mile down the Lower Punchbowl Falls Trail,
in route to a stunning Eagle Creek shoreline. In the summer, this rocky strip of beach is
crowded with swimming children, tanning teens, and avid photographers.

If you choose to remain on the trail, you will be awestruck by
an impressive view of Punchbowl Falls Overlook.

High Bridge (Brian, Jaren, Dave, Chris) |
Little than a mile past Punchbowl Falls, hikers will
encounter the pleasant Loowit Falls. High Bridge, a common turnaround point, is situated just past Loowit. Approximately 3.2 miles out, this
turnaround point is fitting for hikers pursuing a more leisurely trek.

Continuing 3 more miles and passing numerous
camp spots along the way, you will eventually reach Tunnel Falls. This unique water feature directs
traffic behind a towering falls and on-through a dynamite blasted tunnel. For
a virtual tour, see the above video.
